One of the architects of the Stax-Volt sound, and is probably best known for his 1961 debut single, "You Don't Miss Your Water". In 1977, Bell topped Billboard's R&B singles chart with "Tryin' to Love Two". He co-wrote such tunes as “I Forgot to Be Your Lover,” “Private Number,” and “Born Under a Bad Sign,” the title song of an album by guitarist Albert King and a major hit for the British group Cream. Bell was inducted in to the Georgia Music Hall Of Fame in 1997.
